मी जेव्हा इंग्रजी शिकवतो, My Success Story!

शालेय विद्यार्थ्यांना लवकरात लवकर इंग्रजी भाषेत हुशार बनवायचे असेल तर कोणकोणत्या गोष्टी शिकवायला पाहिजेत ....

मी केलेले प्रयत्न आणि मला मिळालेले यश याबद्दल अनुभव सांगणारा हा छोटासा लेख.....

I am very pleased to share this experience with you as I have started  this little effort (my blog- https://englishforenrichment2.blogspot.com) to help numerous students who tackle with difficulties they usually face during the journey of English language.  I have been a part of primary education since more than a decade, I have tangled with  plenty of obstacles that adversely affected hundreds of gleaming eyes sitting in front of me in my classroom. So I hope, my useful techniques and little activities will play role of a torchbearer for all those students who have unconditional and uncommon interest in English learning. So I think, before starting  any new lesson, I must discuss here, my experience as an English teacher so far . I kept teaching English at primary levels and sometimes at upper primary levels too.  Most of the times, the students sitting in front my eyes were and are from very rural backgrounds. They rarely have any opportunities of using English outside the campus,so the responsibility of making them fluent in English comes on the shoulder of English teachers only. Teacher has to provide them with all necessary techniques and basic activities to develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills...... Commonly the very first step to learn any language is to listen it correctly and repeatedly. There should be an atmosphere of English environment around students but usually a different picture can be seen in schools. To be honest, we fall short in providing a full time English ambience. Here the responsibility as well as  role of a teacher is very crucial. Teacher must motivate students for English speaking and he himself ought to use correct English throughout everyday routine. Here I would like to share my one remarkable experience. Few years back, when  I was teaching in an upper primary school....... There I used to ring each of my students every evening and I would start with easy and comman English comments and sentences... that phone call would last for around thirty to forty minutes. I had developed a time table and every student would get an opportunity to speak English with me twice or thrice a month. These conversations, gradually brought very surprising changes in my students and they started talking without any fear. Meanwhile, they themselves developed their own time tables and started ringing one another in off times. Everyone was overwhelmed by English speaking at all! I encouraged them for listening English news and commentaries. At the beginning, it was quite tough for them to interpret everything word by word but slowly my efforts started bearing fruits and most of students in my classrooms started enjoying news bulletins with sporadic mistakes. I invited some of native but noted English speakers to my school for having a short but meaningful conversations with my students. For betterment of speaking skill and speech, I kept arranging many grouping activities such as interviews, conversations based on social incidents and many other everyday happenings. We all are sure that dramas have a very dramatic and enchanting role in their progress of speaking skill. Finally when it comes to reading and writing skills, vocabulary has a very major occupancy. This is the domain where generally students slip behind. I still remember how newspaper reading had a lion's share in enrichment of English itself specially when I think about my students . I believe English newspaper reading is the only way to complete search of English words. I have a fruitful experience about newspaper reading. Besides, I would provide my students different books with comparatively easier language which ultimately developed a strong foundation of numerous words from various spheres of life. To boost their writing hunger, I introduced them with many short stories and eventually when I found my students penning themselves, truely my happiness had no boundaries. So constant and vigilant efforts can help all of us for making learning, a very comfortable process. 
In the above conversation, I tried to explain my experiment of English teaching. As we know that students have different backgrounds so there may develop many challenges  in their learning process. Challenges regarding their listening, speaking, reading and writing are comman. Personally I think that students should be introduced with all tenses as early as possible because unless they learn the different sentence structures, they can't get to the axis of English. So teacher should use English as much as possible during school time.  Sometimes frequent use of phrases and idioms is also absolutely needed because it can help them in improving better understanding of language. My students had a sufficient collection of phrases and idioms when I was in an upper primary school.
I displayed my experience above only to ensure that students have certain difficulties with vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar. So I hope my well prepared plans, activities and techniques  will help my students overcome obstacles in the journey of English!
